'tis the season to be bbq (or the many tongues of ruby tuesday)

happy new year to me. now that the obligatory well-wishes are done, on to more serious business. bbq business. yes, we miss out on white christmas and curling up by the fire as we ring in the new year.

however...

we get to engage in the fine, fine art of bbq. meet the master bbqer, paul.

why, hello there, meat.

this man knows how to get it just so: the chicken is juicy and tender but never pink.
and the chops are falling off the bone.
and the fried eggs. o, the fried eggs.

and the woman in charge of the marinading and the salad-making? she ain't chopped liver, either. check these winners out:

um, baby spinach, capsicum, roast sweet pumpkin, juicy ripe tomatoes. oooh yeah.

brown rice salad: voted best salad of the night by this keen, carb-free blogger. and yes i did have a mouthful of this heavenly combo of brown rice, finely diced capsicum, fat cashews, spring onions and tomatoes.

point being, bbq makes people do this:

and dogs do this:

that's lip-lickin' goodness for you - how's that tongue action!?

and speaking of tongues and dogs, check out these corkers of ruby, the photo-bomber:

what a cutie! and seriously talented with her tongue.

and i like this one for the juxtaposition of the hard, nubbly pebble floor against her sweet, tight-curled puffiness and broom-ended tail. she waits patiently for stray meat or watermelon. either will do.

in the meantime, i made a new year's resolution this year to be good to myself. usually my resolutions are much more concrete and last no time at all, say, they're broken by 12.15am on new year's day. but this year, i'm just being good to myself, and really, that's open to interpretation, right? but it's in line with the blog, and with the mantra, and with my new zen-like idea that no matter what happens, i'll stay calm, my life will work out, and nobody wants to see me fail (not even me). let's see how this one works out.

so, in sum: bbqs are good, dogs' tongues are cute and new year's resolutions remain to be seen. the end.
